Hi there, I’m Katlin and welcome to Polardog Outfitters.
Polardog began in 2009 when I started making collars for fun to sell at the vet clinic I worked at. I purchased mountain climbing webbing and buckles / ribbons from local stores. I didn’t know anything about ordering products online and everything I did was trial and error. My yorkie had so many collars!
When I got my Tamaskan dog, Wylie, I tried to find a pulling harness to sled with him. Nothing I purchased fit correctly. I used my canine anatomy knowledge to create my own harness and it works excellent. I began to sell them as well. My poor 80’s sewing machine was dying trying to get through all the webbing and padding and my thread would break constantly.
In 2014 I upgraded to an industrial machine called a Reliable (the american version of a Juki), I upgraded my thread and padding, as well as began developing my rope gear. In 2015 (November) I was able to make my first spliced rope gear. We are the first ones in Canada to use this rope, spliced the way I have as well as the first to use trigger snaps with every leash. Our gear has been sold in Australia, the UK, the USA, and all over Canada. I’m thrilled with our outreach and hope to keep taking over the world with our high quality items!
A bit more personal
I’m a pet groomer and have my own business, I groom out of a shop in SE Calgary and have been there since August 2015. I have worked in vet clinics for over 6 years and did emergency, exotics, and canine / feline clinics. I received my certificate as a Veterinary Assistant (honors) in 2012 and worked in a clinic daycare before that. It’s pretty obvious to say that I’ve always loved animals. I compete with Rally Obedience with Wylie, and we compete in dryland mushing as well as winter sledding. I also show and groom show mini Wirehaired Dachshunds for a local breeder in Calgary.
